Muse chose 7 cities in the world as a playground for their treasure hunt (Paris, Berlin, Moscow, Dubaï, Tokyo, Hong Kong and New York by chronological ordrer). For each city, fans had to recognize an "agent" with the book The Grand Chessboard in his hands and be the faster to tell him a password in order to get an USB key in which there was a code.
When put online the codes turned to be enigmas, different for each city, that the fans had to resolve. As soon as an enigma was resolved, the official webiste put up a preview of United States of Eurasia in the following hours for us to listen.
The hunt almost finished, when Hong Kong enigma had been cracked, United States of Eurasia was fully available for listening purpose on the official website.
But the hunt didn't end up as Muse has planned. Fans made a resistance in New York, resulting in no one getting the USB key. Anyway, the official website gave us all the same a link to download United States of Eurasia + Collateral damage at 320 kbps in the evening.
Muse's new official website reopened yesterday filled with enigmas concerning the tresor hunt Matt announced on MuseWire a few days ago. The prize is rumoured to be the song United States of Eurasia. Head to the micro site Ununited states of Eurasia to participate.
On another note, Muse will play Uprising at the MTV video music awards 2009 on september 13th in New York.
The Resistance's first single will be the song Uprising, as confirmed by Musewire. It wasn't broadcasted on monday 6th on Radio 1 because Zane Lowe already unveiled Arctic Monkey's new single during his show.
Radio1 will play it during Lowe's show on August 3rd, when it'll be released on september 7th.
Today Matthew "finally understood how Twitter works" (those are his own words) and asked who fancied a treasure hunt.
He began by posting:
Eurasia - to unify or not to unify? That is the question... For advice turn to 'the grand chess board' by Zbigniew Brzeninski
Then when kinkylollipopz asked on Twitter if the treasure was a shoe, Matt answered "maybe a song!".
Acrosby6 asked to MuseWire: There is question about twitter.com/nspace.... have you been planning this for a year?
Here is Matt's answer:
Maybe longer! Treasure hunt will commence in week or 2. Good night. M

After an interview with Australian Jmag (that you can find on the gallery), Muse have returned from NYC to do some promo as stated Chris today on their Twitter account:
So, we are in Italy in extreme thunderstorms and no electricity doing loads of interviews for various magazines. Keep you eyes peeled-Chris
This seems to confirm the rumour that Zane Lowe should be flying to Italy to spend some time with the band to celebrate The Resistance's release. Another rumour has it that the first single off the new album may be aired on Radio 1 during Zane Lowe show on next Monday. Stay tuned.
02/07 Update: Zane Lowe IS actually in Italy, he posted pics of the studios and more today on his Twitter account, you can find them on the gallery.
He also spoke about the album:
Muse "The Resistance". A beautifully recorded, strong, sweeping, fighting, uplifting, rocking, lilting and inclusive record about love.
